COUNCIL FAIL TO ENSURE VITAL MONEY FOR SCHOOL

1.33.20pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 1st Aug 2007

Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) have failed to secure vital funds for Wallop Primary School, according to Romsey MP Sandra Gidley.

The funding should have come from the developers of the former printers in Over Wallop as part of the Developers Contribution towards Children's Services Facilities. However, TVBC failed to secure the funding which would have been spent on improving the Primary School.

Commenting Sandra said:

"The Developers Contribution towards Children's Services Facilities is a Hampshire scheme to ensure social responsibility among developers. The idea is that when new houses are built, developers contribute finances to upgrade children's services facilities in the local area, so that the existing facilities are not over crowded."

"Hampshire County Council has confirmed that under the scheme, TVBC should have ensured that developers contribute over £31,000 to make improvements to the existing school, Over Wallop Primary."

"Instead of this, Over Wallop Primary will either have to face over crowding, or the more likely option, seek the vital funding from taxes. Test Valley Borough Council has in effect lost the tax payers of Hampshire over Thirty One Thousand Pounds."
