SANDRA BEATS THE STREETS - TO BEAT BREAST CANCER12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 21st May 2008 City and County MP Sandra Gidley joined 15,000 women and a few men on Saturday night as they walked through moonlit London to raise funds for vital breast cancer research. Sandra was joined by fellow Members of Parliament, Jo Swinson, Julia Goldsworthy, Margaret Hodge and Patricia Hewitt as they paraded their elaborately decorated bras around the capital. Commenting after the event - in the early hours of Sunday morning, Sandra said: "It has been a great event - 15,000 crazily dressed people pounding London's pavements in the middle of the night! "44,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, making it one of the most common cancers. Sadly, over 13,000 go on to die from the disease. I, like so may others, know friends and family who have been affected by breast cancer. "I'm confident though, that with greater awareness and more funding for research, the numbers of people who are cured will continue to rise. Anything that we can do as individuals to raise awareness and help understand the disease is a worthwhile exercise and I hope even more will join the moonwalk next year." Sandra, who has so far raised over £500, added: "Donations are still coming in thick and fast! I thank all those who have sponsored me so far, and invite those who wish to make a donation to give what they can."
