MP VOWS TO FIGHT PREJUDICE8.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 25th Jun 2008 Local MP, Sandra Gidley has pledged to fight against prejudice and hatred as she joined MPs from all parties to sign the Anne Frank Declaration in the Houses of Parliament. The Declaration, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, was established by the Anne Frank Trust UK and was signed by over one hundred MPs and Peers. Commenting, Sandra said: "While society is more tolerant today than it has ever been, there are still many barriers to overcome before prejudice and hatred is a thing of the past. "The lessons of the past have still not been learnt, with extremist groups and parties continuing to divide our communities with their message of intolerance, bigotry and hatred. "I will certainly do all I can in the coming day, months, weeks and years to fight all forms of prejudice locally and across the UK." Sandra has also agreed to take part in a trip, with two post-16 year old local students, to Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland on 13 November to commemorate the holocaust and help younger generations understand how destructive prejudice can be. "It is so important that future generations know what bigotry and prejudice lead to" added Sandra. "I encourage any local students who want to come with me to visit Auschwitz to apply as soon as possible." Schools that wish to apply should get in contact with Paul Evans of the Holocaust Education Trust on 020 7222 6822.
