ROMSEY IN STITCHES OVER KNIT-ATHON

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 20th Aug 2008

The Test Valley witnessed its first 'knit-athon' last Friday, as a group descended on the United Reformed Church's parish hall to join their MP in making hats which could save the lives of many newborn babies around the world.

Sandra now has around 200 hats in her constituency office, which will soon be passed on to Save the Children, with every hat potentially saving one life.

Speaking after the 'knit-athon' Sandra commented:

"We've had a great response from knitters right across the area and could have saved many lives. I thank all those who have sent in hats or who came along to our knit-athon.

"I think Romsey could now be crowned the knitting capital of the country. We have been receiving bags of hats daily in the office and we'll have quite a pile to hand over to Save the Children."

Sandra also invited local residents to continue to send in hats before they are delivered to Save the Children in a couple of weeks:

"If anyone would still like to knit a hat, or knit more, then please send them in before 5 September and they will be added to our ever growing pile."
